Empire in the Air Release Party

This past Friday, March 15, marked our very first Release Party. We wanted our debut back in the street wear game as a big bang! And the only way to make this year crackin’ would be to celebrate with you guys.

Samantha, Christopher, and I have been planning this event for the past few months. Samantha was the decor and set-up genius ( I swear that girl knows how to improvise anything and everything) while Christopher engineered the logistics and took care of the promo material.

We had the venue on lock (Sin Lounge— courtesy of the owner, Aimmie, who happens to be Christopher’s cousin) and although it may not be the most conventional place, they gave us all the leeway and assistance we needed.

Steven Cheung spun old-school funk and hip-hop vinyls (… and even hyphy) for us to dance the night away. 

Hungry Fam featured as special guest performers while rockin’ the latest shirt I designed for them. ( Big thanks to Randy Le for arranging everything!)

Jelyn, Aiko, Aaron, Mark, Cestine, and Angelo handled all the sales the entire night. All of them, as well as Jesse, helped set up too.

Nea, Hidee, and Ansel greeted everyone in.

And! Melissa, Alan, and Johnny captured the night’s favorable moments. The pictures above are actually from Melissa herself.

Everyone listed (and more) helped make the night as fun as can be. But more importantly, this was all for you. We hope you enjoyed the new releases, the music, the coloring table, the photo-booth, etc. This party was intended to welcome you in our brand’s adventure to the top. Thank you for welcoming us in your own adventure.

After a day of hanging out together, Ann e-mailed me a poem she wrote at 4 in the morning. It caught me off guard because… well for one thing, it was sent at 4am… but what surprised me the most was the content. Her poem is incredibly humbling— it warmed my heart to see Empire’s mission portrayed through poetry.

We will be showcasing apparel and artwork, including a new collection and the shirts we designed for Hungry Fam. Some of the profits from the new collection will go to Project PEARLS and there will be some reps to talk to if you want to get involved and volunteer.

The Release Party will also be the pick-up spot for those of you who ordered the Original Logo Tee here for $20. Pre-sales will end on March 3.

There will be a few performances by the Hungry Fam as well as music provided by our good friend Steven Cheung.

And top of that! We’ll have a handful of raffles and giveaways.

Art Break

After a nearly all-nighter night and days of spamming your guys’ social networks with Empire updates, I figured I’d take a break from the crazy by sharing some artwork. 

The first is a set of stickers I made for my friend Cassandra (if you love Pixar and the Giants and art in general, I highly suggest you check her art out too.) I also made her a Meelo sticker, which you can see here.

The second row is full of cheesiness to the max (purposely). I couldn’t think of what to get my boyfriend  (also the Empire photographer) so I made him a mini booklet of the corniest pick-up lines I could think of… while relevant to Avatar.

Last, but not least, are the sketches that pushed me way out of my boundaries. Whenever people ask me what medium I use, I always shrug and simply say, “black sharpies.” I decided to take a beginning drawing class a year ago and it turned out that I could actually draw more than my short fat kids haha.
